About The Position

The Cloud Systems Engineer is a position with hands-on experience supporting secure, scalable, and cost-effective solutions across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. Skilled in implementing and maintaining Azure infrastructure, identity and access management with Microsoft Entra ID, and collaboration services including Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint. Experienced in configuring networking components such as VNets, Private Endpoints, DNS, and VPN connectivity, as well as Azure Storage solutions. This person also provides technical support for cloud initiatives, assists with tenant migrations and cross-tenant collaboration, and serves as an escalation point for complex Azure and M365 issues. Focused on operational excellence, security best practices, and continuous improvement of cloud environments. Key domains include multitenant Azure landing zones, identity and access with Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 collaboration (SharePoint, Teams, Viva, Power Platform), modern device management with Intune, and data protection controls with Defender and Purview. The Cloud Systems Engineer will receive limited direction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new projects or assignments. Will assist project leadership on projects of complex scope. Will work independently or under limited supervision. This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Azure services (IaaS, App Service, AKS, Functions, SQL PaaS, Storage, Networking, AVD) and M365 security/compliance tools (Defender, Purview, Entra ID Protection)
  • Proficiency in M365 applications (SharePoint, Teams, Power Platform) and Entra ID, including advanced configuration and administration.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to translate business and development requirements into technical architectures and present solutions to executives, developers, and clients.
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)
  • Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technology and adapting to evolving requirements.
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Azure IaaS and PaaS environments, ensuring secure configuration, high availability, and adherence to organizational cloud standards.
  • Administer and support Microsoft Entra ID including security groups, dynamic group queries, M365 group lifecycle management, RBAC role assignments, and Conditional Access policy implementation.
  • Manage and support Microsoft 365 services including Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and licensing governance.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Azure networking components including Virtual Networks, subnetting, Private Endpoints, Private DNS Zones, and Global Secure Access connectivity.
  • Implement and support Azure Storage solutions including Blob Storage and Azure File Shares with RBAC + NTFS permissions and Kerberos authentication (AADDS/Entra scenarios).
  • Serve as escalation point for complex Azure identity, networking, and storage-related issues.
  • Support cross-tenant collaboration initiatives including B2B guest access configuration and cross-tenant migration activities.
  • Assist with tenant-to-tenant resource migrations including storage accounts, virtual machines, and identity configurations.
  • Monitor and optimize Azure spend using Azure Cost Management; provide recommendations for cost control and right-sizing resources.
  • Support Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments including Remote Apps, Desktop Pools, image management, and familiarity with Nerdio automation (if applicable).
  • Participate in backup and retention configuration for Azure workloads, ensuring alignment with business continuity requirements.
