Systems Administrator

CACI•Springfield, VA
•$75,200 - $158,100

About The Position

The Systems Administrator administers, operates, troubleshoots, and secures IT infrastructure supporting containerized applications. The role covers container runtimes, orchestration platforms, cluster networking, persistent storage, and related security controls. The administrator uses systems analysis to diagnose and resolve issues affecting containerized workloads, nodes, storage, and connectivity, helping ensure availability, performance, and integrity. The position applies security patches, operating system and Kubernetes upgrades, and container image updates; supports new container-platform infrastructure projects; and maintains configuration documentation for assigned systems. The position provides infrastructure and platform support for containerized applications, including container lifecycle operations and underlying runtime infrastructure. It supports active security authorizations and related evidence artifacts, implements applicable security hardening guidance, and supports container image, Helm chart, and infrastructure configuration build, test, and deployment through enterprise or government-managed CI/CD pipelines where applicable. The focus is platform operations, image and registry management, and orchestration rather than application-code development. This is a regular, full-time position requiring an active/current TS/SCI clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a polygraph. It requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical or scientific discipline, at least six years of system administration experience, and CompTIA Security+ or the ability to obtain it within 90 days. The position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately; applicants may also be considered for other CACI positions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical or scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of six years of system administration experience.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker/container and Kubernetes.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain it within 90 days.
  • Active/current TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a polygraph.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AWS (EKS or equivalent) or comparable cloud or on-premises container platforms.
  • Experience with Helm or similar packaging tools.
  • Container security knowledge, including image scanning, network policies, runtime protection, and CIS benchmarks.
  • GitOps experience and CI/CD pipelines for container deployments.
  • Prior experience in classified DoD/IC environments supporting A&A processes.

Responsibilities

  • Identify problems in the container environment and diagnose root causes, including pod or node failures, resource constraints, CNI or overlay networking issues, persistent volume problems, and control-plane issues; develop corrective action plans.
  • Isolate and restore failed containerized services, nodes, or cluster components through corrective maintenance.
  • Optimize cluster performance, resource allocation, autoscaling, and observability through perfective maintenance.
  • Update configurations, perform version upgrades, adapt to new security or infrastructure requirements, and support platform changes while preserving workload functionality.
  • Manage container lifecycle operations, including image management, deployments, rollouts, and scaling, as well as the underlying container-runtime infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain as-is documentation, including high-level architecture diagrams covering clusters, namespaces, workloads, services, ingress, storage classes, networking, integration points, and associated system requirements.
  • Support maintenance of active security authorizations (A&A) and Body of Evidence (BoE) artifacts, including POAMs, control implementations, and test plans.
  • Implement applicable STIGs, CIS Kubernetes Benchmarks, and vendor hardening guidance for container platforms; ensure timely patching of nodes, container images, and related components.
  • Integrate with enterprise security services (ESS) and use required tools, including XACTA 360, Service+, CPT, and SWAP.
  • Support the build, test, and deployment of container images, Helm chart manifests, and infrastructure configurations through enterprise or government-managed CI/CD pipelines where applicable.
