About The Position

This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel in the final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will train as a Systems Administrator, work on meaningful projects, and receive guidance from a mentor and senior company leadership. The internship is intended to align with the intern’s knowledge, skills, education, and military training, and may provide a pathway to a regular, permanent position with Enlighten. The intern will report to a designated Enlighten Supervisor and learn the company’s approach to building, supporting, and maintaining IT systems. Training covers day-to-day operations, monitoring, and troubleshooting of client workstations, internal networks, and cloud infrastructure in a hybrid environment. The desired outcome, targeted for three to four months, is a basic understanding of systems administration and the critical tasks needed to perform its objectives. The internship requires a hybrid schedule from Enlighten’s local Columbia, Maryland office and availability during core hours for critical meetings and training. The training plan progresses through IT infrastructure and Google Workspace, macOS management and JAMF, Windows administration in a secure SIPR space, networking, NIST-based security practices and compliance, AWS, Docker, scripting and automation, log troubleshooting, monitoring, and IT operations best practices. Additional goals include communicating project status and understanding NIST 800-171 and CMMC Level 2 security practices.
