About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a System Safety Engineer for their Denver, CO facility. This role involves evaluating hardware and software to ensure mission success, focusing on national defense systems. The engineer will be part of the System Safety Team, driven by innovation and integrity, and will apply the highest standards of business ethics and forward thinking. The position offers the opportunity to use system safety skills, training, and education to shape the future.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college in an engineering or related technical discipline
  • Experience using current system safety standards and guidance in one of the following: MIL-STD-882E, DO-178C, AFSPCMAN 91-710, NASA System Safety Handbook, JSSSEH, and/or other military/commercial system safety standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of System Safety design and operations safety principles to include experience with one or all of the following: hazard identification, systems analysis, risk mitigation, safety requirements management, and associated deliverable documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
  • US Citizenship is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience participating in DoD System Safety Working Groups
  • Familiarity with MBSE
  • Familiarity with DOORs

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
  • Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings
  • Support the development and updating of System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements
  • Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements
  • Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards and their mitigation strategy for the program.
  • Own and understand the assessments completed by the safety team and concur with their mitigation strategy.
  • Mentorship of the SSEs on the team.
  • Be a vocal safety leader and provide feedback and status to customers/program on safety status.
  • Occasional Safety Manager Delegate and aid in BOEs, ROMs, and CAM activities.
