About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a mid-career System Safety Engineer for their Denver, CO facility. This role involves evaluating hardware and software to ensure mission success, with a focus on national defense systems. The engineer will be part of the System Safety Team and will utilize their skills, training, and education to contribute to the company's innovative and ethical culture. The position requires a strong understanding of system safety principles and the ability to apply them to complex engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college in an engineering or related discipline
  • Knowledge of System Safety Standards
  • Knowledge of System Safety design and operations safety principles to include experience with hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation and/or associated deliverable documentation
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance and US Citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using MIL-STD-882E, SSMAN 91-710, NASA GSFC-STD-8009, or other relevant industry and/or range safety standards
  • Experience participating/presenting in DoD System Safety Working Groups and Safety Boards
  • Familiarity with DOORS and/or Cameo
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage and interact in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations and customers
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Active Secret clearance

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
  • Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings
  • Support the development and updating of System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements
  • Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements
  • Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards, their assessments, and their respective mitigation's
  • Creation of Fault Trees to support Safety Board Interactions
