About The Position

The System Safety Engineer is a member of the engineering team who participates in the definition, design, and test of aircraft, systems, and equipment to ensure safety objectives are achieved through the design, test, certification, and in-service life cycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline and 5 years minimum experience in analysis and/or design of aircraft or aircraft systems is required, with detailed knowledge safety analysis methods.
  • Equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Direct experience creating Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Cause Analysis, Safety Assessment Reports, Common Cause Analysis (CCA), Common Mode Analysis (CMA), Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA).
  • Detailed knowledge of ARP-4761 and ARP-4754A.
  • Experience working with FAA or EASA showing compliance with 14 CFR Part 23/25/27/29.
  • Experience with Fault Tree Analysis software.
  • Must be a proven self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in an Engineering field.
  • FAA DER for System Safety.
  • Demonstrated passion for and involvement in aviation.
  • Certificated airplane or helicopter pilot
  • Experience with advanced flight control systems

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the definition, design, and test of aircraft, systems, and equipment to ensure safety objectives are achieved through the design, test, certification, and in-service life cycle.
  • Develop effective safety assessments as informed by ARP 4754A, ARP 4761 and other accepted industry standards.
  • Develop Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Analyses (AFHA, SFHA), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Aircraft and System Safety Analyses (ASA, SSA) to demonstrate compliance with 27.1309 and other affected regulations.
  • Define and verify DO-178 and DO-254 software / hardware development assurance level (DAL) requirements.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for the system safety function including logically defining project documentation structure.
  • Coordinate with the internal groups, outside suppliers, and regulatory agencies to ensure well planned, efficient and timely development and certification of complex projects.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate compliance records including certification plans, test reports, analyses, and other data for projects.
  • Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques.
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced aircraft systems safety engineers.
