About The Position

HL Mando America Corporation has an opening for the position of System Safety Engineer. This role is responsible for the development and delivery of functional and technical safety concepts for automotive systems, leading all aspects of safety case development according to ISO 26262, and executing the functional safety process for automotive applications. The engineer will complete preliminary HARA, FTA, and safety FMEA, lead functional safety process reviews for electric power steering and brake systems, and perform safety concept verification and validation, including traceability to requirements. Responsibilities also include final safety assessment, identifying and addressing design-unique safety issues, participating in functional safety process reviews with customers, supporting PDTs and design engineers on safety-related issues, making high-level trade-offs to optimize system architecture, designing and developing algorithms for diagnostics, and translating vehicle-level safety requirements into system requirements. The role involves direct communication with customers and suppliers, as well as global teams regarding customer safety requirements, design changes, and product launches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign academic equivalent in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation including Safety Engineer, Software Engineer, or related experience.
  • 3 years of experience with system safety engineering and ISO 26262.

Responsibilities

  • Development and delivery of functional and technical safety concepts for automotive systems.
  • Lead all aspects of safety case development according to ISO 26262.
  • Execute the functional safety process for automotive applications.
  • Complete preliminary HARA (Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment), FTA (Fault Tree Analysis), and safety FMEA (Failure Mode & Effect Analysis) for all programs as needed.
  • Lead functional safety process reviews for electric power steering and brake systems.
  • Perform safety concept verification and validation, including traceability to requirements.
  • Responsible for final safety assessment, including residual risk assessment.
  • Identify and address design-unique safety issues.
  • Participate in functional safety process reviews with customers as needed.
  • Support PDTs and design engineers on safety related issues.
  • Make high level trade-offs to optimize system architecture.
  • Design and develop algorithms for diagnostics.
  • Translate vehicle-level safety requirements, objective and subjective, into system requirements.
  • Communicate directly to customers and supplier.
  • Communicate with global teams regarding customer safety requirements, design changes, and product launches.
