About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer for its Denver, Colorado facility. This role is crucial for pioneering manned-space initiatives and involves analyzing hardware and software, establishing and maintaining system safety requirements, and supporting the Systems Engineering team throughout the system lifecycle. The engineer will contribute to trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, and the translation of customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Support will also be provided during System Integration and verification/validation of system requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an engineering or related discipline
  • Experience using System Safety Standards
  • Experience with the development, documentation, and verification of system requirements.
  • Knowledge and application of System Safety design and operations safety principles to include experience with hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation and/or associated deliverable documentation.
  • US Citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using NASA-STD-8719.13, NASA-STD-3001, NASA-STD-1006, MIL-STD-882E, RCC-319/324, and SSCMAN 91-710, or other relevant industry and/or range safety standards
  • Experience defining safety requirements, influencing design to integrate safety requirements, and verifying safety requirements.
  • Software system safety experience
  • Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups
  • Familiarity with MBSE
  • Familiarity with DOORs
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage and interact in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations and customers

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
  • Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings
  • Develop and/or update System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements
  • Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements
  • Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing
  • Development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards, their assessments, and their respective mitigation's.
