About The Position

We are seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to join our rapidly growing Space team. As a System Safety Engineer at Anduril, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of advanced Reliability & System Safety tools and methodologies to drive excellence in our space programs. You will support the Systems Engineering, and Hardware & Software development teams across the product development lifecycle. Your scope will encompass the full lifecycle of our space products, including ensuring safety during launch and range operations, payload integration, and on-orbit mission execution. The right person for this role has deep knowledge of design and development with a safety focus on satellites, launch vehicles, and/or space payloads. If you are someone who has hands-on experience from concept to on-orbit delivery, loves to build world-class Safety processes for space systems, can work efficiently across multidisciplinary teams, and be accountable for results, then this role is for you.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years Industry Experience as a System Safety Engineer or equivalent engineering background
• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical discipline
• Experience with safety-critical hardware & software systems in the defense or aerospace industry, with a preference for satellites, launch vehicles, space payloads, or related aerospace systems.
• Extensive knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, with demonstrated experience applying space safety standards such as AFSPCMAN 91-710, AFI 91-202, or ODMSP
• Experience setting up a System Safety Engineering framework for a product or program, including early stage Design for Safety and Hazard Analysis experience
• Strong background in safety analysis techniques, including FTA, FHA, SCFTA, and FMECA
• Failure investigation/analysis experience with proven track record of solving problems and preventing reoccurrence
• Design Review Experience (PDR, CDR) and confident in presentation skills across all levels of leadership
• Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
• Eligibility to obtain/maintain a U.S. Top Secret clearance, as required

Nice To Haves

• M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
• Experience with Relyence, Teamcenter, JIRA, JAMA, Cameo
• Experience with risk management, change control/change management reviews, and software/firmware HITL/SITL
• AI/ML software safety experience
• Technical writing experience developing standards, specifications, user guides, and policies
• Experience drafting requirements for Software & Hardware

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement tailored System Safety program plans aligned with MIL-STD-882E and the needs of Anduril & its customers.
• Conduct and review complex safety analyses, including FHA (Functional Hazard Analysis), Fault Tree, SCFTA (Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis), and SSA (System Safety Assessments) at system and sub-system level for complex unmanned systems.
• Lead safety assessments for launch and range safety, collaborating with launch providers and range authorities to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Develop and verify safety requirements for payload integration, ensuring compatibility with launch vehicles and host platforms
• Oversee on-orbit safety, including orbital debris mitigation, conjunction assessment response planning, and end-of-life disposal strategies.
• Develop safety requirements and collaborate with design teams to implement safety solutions in hardware, software, and system-level procedures.
• Identify & document hazards for your program(s), manage hazard tracking databases, and drive risk mitigation strategies
• Support Development Milestone Reviews such as PDR, CDR, and TRR representing System Safety.
• Drive continuous improvement in System Safety processes and methodologies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant military and industry safety standards for space systems.
