About The Position

The System Engineer applies a collaborative, interdisciplinary systems engineering approach to plan, design, develop, integrate, and verify complex systems and system-of-systems solutions throughout their lifecycle. The role analyzes customer and operational requirements to define system performance, ensure compatibility across technical and program interfaces, and optimize system architecture. It also supports affordability, reliability, maintainability, safety, cybersecurity, certification, and mission assurance objectives. The position leads requirements, risk, and issue management; technology readiness assessments; and systems engineering processes. It uses Model-Based Systems Engineering tools such as Cameo, along with mathematical modeling and simulation, to develop system definitions and perform trade studies. The engineer develops verification and validation methods and plans, documents software system requirements, translates requirements into architectures and designs, and tests and validates designs against operational and functional requirements. The role is based in a typical office environment and is listed as hybrid in St. Louis, Missouri. A Secret clearance is required before starting.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering.
  • At least 1 year of experience with the Scaled Agile Framework or Agile methodologies.
  • A bachelor's, master's, or doctorate of science degree from an accredited course of study in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or another technical field.
  • Experience with software configuration management tools such as Team Foundation Server or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience writing and analyzing test procedures and software requirements.
  • Experience with Operational Flight Program (OFP) System Integration Lab (SIL) testing.
  • Must have a Secret clearance to start.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and optimize total systems and system architectures to solve complex mission-planning problems.
  • Apply interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, design, develop, integrate, and verify system solutions.
  • Define and coordinate system performance requirements and integrate technical parameters.
  • Define high-level functional and performance requirements and verification methods; decompose and derive requirements, allocate them to physical and functional architecture elements, and track them through design, verification, integration, and operational validation.
  • Perform analyses related to affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, survivability, human systems integration, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory compliance, certification, product assurance, cybersecurity, and other quality factors.
  • Use MBSE tools such as Cameo, mathematical modeling, and simulation to develop system definitions and perform trade studies.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation plans concerning compliance with system requirements and customer capabilities.
  • Develop verification and validation methods, processes, logic, and plans to support program milestones.
  • Develop and document software system requirements.
  • Analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs, and interface specifications.
  • Test and validate system designs to ensure they meet operational and functional requirements.
