Systems Engineer - MBSE

SAIC•Crane, IN
•Onsite

About The Position

SAIC is seeking a talented and motivated Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support hypersonic programs at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane. This high-impact role is embedded at the customer site and works directly with government engineers and program teams on Department of Defense hypersonic development efforts. The role calls for a strong systems engineering foundation, hands-on experience with MBSE tools and methodologies, and engagement across the system lifecycle from concept development through validation and verification. The engineer reviews technical data packages and supports technical reviews, drawing reviews, and model reviews. The position develops and maintains system architecture models, primarily using Cameo Systems Modeler, and supports model-based engineering practices. It also involves requirements management, technical analyses, system design and integration, interface management, validation and verification planning, documentation, and collaboration with government stakeholders and industry partners.

Requirements

  • Active Secret Clearance; Interim Secret is required to start, and the candidate must be able to obtain Top Secret.
  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline; Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • MBSE experience, with Cameo Systems Modeler required.
  • At least 5 years of systems engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in product design, procurement, or production floor engineering.
  • Experience designing prototypes or ensuring designs meet functional requirements from procurement through validation and verification.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering processes and methodologies across the program lifecycle.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce and present technical documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with SysML modeling language.
  • Experience supporting DoD hypersonic, missile, or advanced weapons programs.
  • Experience with NSWC Crane or other Navy warfare center programs.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882 (System Safety), MIL-STD-461, or other applicable defense standards.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or DOORS Next.
  • INCOSE CSEP certification or equivalent systems engineering credential.
  • Familiarity with Agile or iterative development approaches in a defense engineering context.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate Technical Data Packages (TDPs) for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with program requirements.
  • Participate in and support Systems Engineering Technical Reviews, including System Requirements Reviews (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), and Test Readiness Reviews (TRR).
  • Support Drawing Reviews and Model Reviews to ensure design integrity and traceability.
  • Develop, maintain, and update system architecture models using MBSE tools, with Cameo Systems Modeler as the primary platform.
  • Apply SysML or equivalent modeling languages to capture system structure, behavior, requirements, and interfaces.
  • Ensure model fidelity and consistency across program phases and stakeholder views.
  • Support transition from document-based to model-based engineering practices within the program.
  • Formulate and document Concept of Operations (CONOPS).
  • Define, decompose, and manage requirements.
  • Conduct technical analyses and trade studies to inform design decisions.
  • Perform system architecting, analysis, and design activities.
  • Conduct system performance analysis and margin assessments.
  • Manage interfaces, including developing and maintaining Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Plan and coordinate systems integration.
  • Support validation and verification (V&V) planning and execution.
  • Prepare engineering plans, process instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate directly with government engineers, program managers, and technical leads at NSWC Crane.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve technical issues.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, and recommendations in written and verbal formats.
