Systems Engineer - MBSE

BAE Systems•Huntsville, AL
•$107,359 - $182,510

About The Position

BAE Systems' Infrastructure Management Center is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the planning, design, and integration of complex technical challenges for critical national security missions and infrastructure. The role supports areas including nuclear missions, production facilities, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and ammunition plant infrastructure. It offers an early-career opportunity in a matrix-type organization, collaborating across departments and using digital engineering tools and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices. The Model-Based Systems Engineer leads the transition from document-centric to model-centric engineering and drives the integration and analysis of complex hardware and software systems. The role develops system architectures, integrates digital engineering artifacts, defines interfaces, manages requirements, conducts technical analyses and trade studies, and works with government stakeholders and prime contractor teams. It also promotes Agile and digital engineering practices, mentors team members new to MBSE and Cameo, and reviews models to provide improvement feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field, such as Mathematics, Physics, or Chemical Engineering.
  • At least 6 years of technical experience, or 4 years with a Master’s degree, with a proven track record in systems engineering and integration.
  • Direct experience applying MBSE principles and using tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
  • Expert-level proficiency with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS.
  • Strong experience in system design, integration, and analysis of complex military or commercial hardware and software systems.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical architectural concepts to team members, stakeholders, and customers.
  • Experience mentoring and training others to implement and use MBSE.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in SysML and experience developing automated scripts, such as Python, to enhance modeling efficiency.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other digital twin technologies.
  • Foundational Systems Engineering (INCOSE) or Project Management (PMP) certifications.
  • Deep understanding of Agile frameworks and their application in highly regulated defense environments.
  • Active security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain system architectures using SysML to improve requirement traceability and change control for new and legacy programs.
  • Use Cameo Systems Modeler and DOORS to maintain an aligned digital thread connecting stakeholder needs, system design, and verification artifacts.
  • Lead the definition of system-level interfaces and boundary conditions to support hardware and software integration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage the full requirements lifecycle, translating mission profiles and operational requirements into system specifications and model elements.
  • Evaluate system-level risks and conduct model-based trade studies to support technical, cost, and schedule decisions.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between government stakeholders and prime contractor teams, ensuring model outputs meet customer expectations.
  • Implement and champion Agile methodologies and digital engineering practices for critical infrastructure programs.
  • Mentor and train team members who are new to MBSE and Cameo, providing guidance and best practices.
