System Administrator Intern (Summer 2027)
About The Position
RTX BBN is hiring a System Administrator Intern for Summer 2027 to support IT operations alongside full-time staff. The intern will help install and configure server hardware and networking equipment, support end users with hardware and software needs, and work with engineering staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical challenges. The role also includes automating routine tasks, supporting data center operations, maintaining IT documentation, and researching and evaluating IT products. The position is onsite in Middletown, Rhode Island. Eligible candidates must reside or relocate within commuting distance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be pursuing a relevant bachelor's degree while remaining actively enrolled throughout the internship.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or a related field.
- Must remain actively enrolled for the duration of the internship.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience administering Windows 10 operating systems.
- Knowledge of PC hardware repair, including laptops, desktops, and servers.
- Understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or CentOS), Ubuntu, and Windows Server.
- Experience with scripting and automation.
- Knowledge of basic IT infrastructure services, security, and protocols.
Responsibilities
- Install and configure server hardware and networking equipment.
- Assist end users with hardware and software needs.
- Collaborate with engineering staff, external vendors, and other stakeholders to solve technical challenges.
- Develop scripts to automate routine tasks and improve efficiency.
- Support data center operations by verifying server and equipment health, organizing resources, and overseeing the disposition of retired servers.
- Provide support for servers and desktops running Linux, Windows, or macOS.
- Organize and maintain the IT document repository.
- Research and evaluate IT products.
