Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, visitors, staff, and emergency responders while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Ability to remain calm, prioritize, and respond effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced, and emergency situations.
  • Strong multitasking and technical skills with the ability to operate multiple communication systems simultaneously.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to make sound decisions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7 hospital environment.
  • Willingness to learn and follow hospital emergency codes, protocols, and paging procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in telecommunications, switchboard operations, or general office work preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and respond to multiple calls, emergencies, and urgent requests while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with hospital staff, emergency responders, and security to ensure timely communication and adherence to protocols.
  • Route calls and inquiries appropriately while providing professional customer service and maintaining strict patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
  • Deliver accurate overhead announcements, emergency code pages, and disaster notifications to authorized personnel.
  • Monitor emergency alarms and communication systems and promptly notify appropriate parties when action is required.
  • Operate multiple communication systems, including switchboards, radios, phones, paging systems, and computer applications with basic data entry.
  • Maintain accurate records, including call logs, patient room status, admissions/discharges, employee contacts, and disaster files.
  • Demonstrate reliability and teamwork, with flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
