About The Position

The Sushi Chef is responsible for producing sushi for Food City’s in-store fresh sushi program. The role involves frequent direct interaction with customers during production and sampling. The chef is expected to work cleanly and in an organized manner while preparing products in front of customers, and to be outgoing, friendly, and ready to answer customer questions. The role also includes supporting and training other associates as needed.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to meet standard physical, mental, and visual demands.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions and perform routine, repetitive tasks.
Ability to interact regularly with individuals at various levels.
Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts and comply with company time and attendance policies.

Responsibilities

Acknowledge, greet, and engage all guests.
Prepare finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce for use in sushi.
Prepare, test, and maintain food safety records for sushi rice.
Assemble, package, and label sushi, sides, and spring rolls for sale.
Prepare custom sushi rolls at customers’ requests.
Train and assist other associates as needed.
Comply with Food City policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local food safety standards.
Inspect products and maintain high standards of product quality.
Monitor ingredient and retail-package temperatures and shelf lives.
Keep the workstation and surrounding area neat and clean.
Maintain complete knowledge of the sushi menu and its ingredients.
Market the Food City Sushi Program through a regular sampling schedule.
Assist with ordering supplies to maintain minimum inventory and avoid out-of-product conditions.
Assist with maintaining proper signage.
Communicate customer comments and requests to the Meat Department Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.
