About The Position

The Sushi Chef is responsible for all aspects of producing sushi for Food City’s in-store fresh sushi program. The role involves frequent, direct customer interaction during production and sampling. The chef is expected to work cleanly and stay organized while preparing products in view of customers, and to be outgoing, friendly, and ready to answer customer questions.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to meet standard physical, mental, and visual demands.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks, and interact daily with individuals at various levels.
Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts and adhere to company time and attendance policies.

Responsibilities

Acknowledge, greet, and engage all guests.
Prepare finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce for sushi.
Prepare and test sushi rice and maintain food safety records for it.
Assemble, package, and label sushi, sides, and spring rolls for sale.
Prepare custom sushi rolls at customers’ requests.
Train and assist other Associates as needed.
Follow Food City policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local food safety standards.
Inspect products and maintain high product-quality standards.
Monitor temperatures and shelf lives of ingredients and retail packages.
Keep the workstation and surrounding area neat and clean.
Maintain complete knowledge of the sushi menu and its ingredients.
Market the Food City Sushi Program by following a regular sampling schedule.
Assist with ordering supplies to maintain minimum inventory and avoid out-of-product conditions.
Help maintain proper signage.
Communicate customer comments and requests to the Meat Department Manager.
Perform other duties as needed.
