About The Position

The Sushi Chef is responsible for producing sushi for Food City’s in-store fresh sushi program. The role involves frequent direct interaction with customers during production and sampling, so the chef must work cleanly and in an organized manner in a customer-facing setting, while being outgoing, friendly, and prepared to answer customer questions. The chef also helps train and assist other associates, supports inventory and signage, and communicates customer feedback to the Meat Department Manager.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to meet standard physical, mental, and visual demands.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions and perform routine, repetitive tasks.
Ability to interact regularly with individuals at various levels.
Ability to attend onsite work during scheduled shifts and comply with company time and attendance policies.

Responsibilities

Acknowledge, greet, and engage all guests.
Prepare finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce for sushi.
Prepare, test, and maintain food safety records for sushi rice.
Assemble, package, and label sushi, sides, and spring rolls for sale.
Prepare custom sushi rolls at customers’ request.
Train and assist other associates as needed.
Follow Food City policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local food safety standards.
Inspect products and maintain high standards of product quality.
Monitor ingredient and retail-package temperatures and shelf lives.
Keep the workstation and surrounding area neat and clean.
Maintain complete knowledge of the sushi menu and its ingredients.
Promote the Food City Sushi Program through regular sampling.
Assist with ordering supplies to maintain minimum inventory and avoid out-of-product conditions.
Help maintain proper signage.
Communicate customer comments and requests to the Meat Department Manager.
Perform other duties as needed.
