About The Position

Bolton & Menk is seeking a Survey Field Intern for their Ames location during the 2027 summer internship season. This role offers a chance to work with a talented team and make an impact on communities. The intern will spend most of their time in the field with an experienced crew chief, applying classroom skills to real projects within the Land Surveying service group. The internship focuses on gaining practical experience with various surveying tasks and equipment.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering Technician, Land Surveying or Survey Technician Degree Program, or related field, from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (Desired GPA 3.2).
Ability to work in extended outdoor conditions.
Physically capable of navigating rugged terrain.
Possess a valid driver's license.
Be insurable under the firm’s standard rates.
Provide own transportation.
Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, part-time basis or internship for any employer without restriction.

Nice To Haves

General coursework in, and completion of, general surveying and AutoCAD drafting.
Previous internship with Bolton & Menk.

Responsibilities

Assist with boundary surveys, construction staking, topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, and GPS data collection.
Perform construction staking.
Gain experience with Trimble, Robotic Total Station, and GPS equipment.
Interact with staff, landowners, contractors, and subcontractors.
