About The Position

Fairview has an immediate opening for a surgical technologist in the operating room at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. This is a casual opening, meaning there are no guaranteed or scheduled shifts, and this opening is not eligible for benefits. As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room. Our OR at Ridges is a 150-bed community-based hospital with 11 OR Rooms, averaging over 7,500 cases/year. Our OR specializes in areas including: Spine, Ortho, OB-GYN, General, ENT, Plastic, Urology, and Da Vinci. Our call response time is 30 minutes and it is a weekend. We offer increased flexibility with a limited call schedule (1 out of 6 weekends).

Requirements

• Complete one of the following by hire date: Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
• Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
• 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience
• Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
• Ability to work well under a team environment

Responsibilities

• Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
• Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
• Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
• Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
