About The Position

Position Summary:
Responsible for providing surgical assistance in the operating room under the direction of a registered nurse or other designated operating room supervisor and assisting with departmental support activities following hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares and sets up operating room.
2. Assists surgical team during operative procedures.
3. Performs terminal cleaning of operating rooms between cases.
4. Completes and maintains records, reports, and other documentation related to the work, including risk management and performance improvement reports.
5. Participates in cost containment and quality assurance programs.
6. Seeks to improve quality of service by continuously developing individual and departmental competencies within scope of practice.
7. Performs other related responsibilities as necessary.
Labor and Delivery
1. Assists with physician procedures such as amniocentesis.
2. Assists with basic patient care including taking vital signs, answering call lights, passing trays, water, etc.
3. Performs general unit support activities such as order entry, running specimens to the laboratory, etc.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent experience.
• BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).
• Certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or possess the Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) through the National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT). Formerly Liaison Council on Certification of Surgical Technologist.
