About The Position

Surgical technologists are part of the surgical team and work under the supervision of a registered nurse and Director of Surgical Care. They assist surgeons during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeon needs to ensure the procedure is executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible. They prepare and organize the sterile field, maintain its integrity, and are experts in surgical instruments and sterile equipment used during procedures. Surgical technologists are responsible for cleaning and sterilizing all surgical instruments and equipment and have a working knowledge of the decontamination to sterilization process in the Central Sterilization Department.

Requirements

• Experience in the healthcare setting with knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology
• High school diploma or equivalent
• BLS

Nice To Haves

• 1-2 years of experience working as a surgical technologist or similar experience as a practical nurse, medical assistant, or an operating room assistant
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician or Medical Assistant program
• LPN, or Certified Surgical Technician
• Certified Surgical Technician or Certified Medical Assistant

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize the sterile field as required for various surgical procedures
• Anticipate surgeon and patient needs during a procedure
• Take care of specimens, prepare, check, and monitor medications on the sterile field, and assist with dressings
• Set up a sterile and sanitary environment, and maintain the sterile field for the patient during procedures
• Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury to patient and personnel
• Participate in orientation and education of all operating room staff on an ongoing basis
• Participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies
• Inspect, replace, and sterilize medical instruments
