About The Position

The Surgical Technologist Extern provides direct patient care appropriate to patients’ age, culture, and developmental needs under the direction of the Surgical Technologist, Surgeons, and OR Nurse Manager. The role applies knowledge of surgical technique, operative procedures, and operating room technology, and complies with standards of practice for Surgical Technologists. This is a casual-status position with a minimum commitment of 16 hours per month.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary Surgical Technology program and successfully completed the first semester.
• Command of the standards of surgical technique.
• BLS certification.
• Successfully complete applicable clearances as outlined in Human Resources policy HR-106 within 90 days of commencing employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care appropriate to patients’ age, culture, and developmental needs under the direction of the Surgical Technologist, Surgeons, and OR Nurse Manager.
• Use knowledge of surgical technique, operative procedures, and operating room technology in providing patient care.
• Comply with standards of practice for Surgical Technologists.
