About The Position

The Surgical Technologist Extern gains hands-on surgical experience while working with the surgical team. Under the guidance of the Circulating RN and experienced surgical staff, the extern assists throughout the surgical process and helps keep the surgical suite clean, organized, and focused on patient safety. The role is for someone currently enrolled and in good standing in an approved surgical technology program. The extern may perform higher-level procedures after achieving competency.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an approved school or program of surgical technology.
• High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Organize and stock operating rooms with instruments, supplies, and equipment to prepare for procedures.
• Assist with patient care before, during, and after surgery, including transport, positioning, and comfort.
• Support the surgical team during procedures by managing sterile instruments, passing tools, and helping with counts and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment through room turnover, restocking, and infection control practices.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and team members while protecting patient privacy and safety.
