About The Position

At HCA Florida West Hospital, the Surgical Technologist Extern gains hands-on surgical experience while working with an experienced team focused on patient care and safety. Under the guidance of the Circulating RN and experienced surgical staff, the extern assists throughout the surgical process and helps keep the surgical suite clean, organized, and prepared. The role includes preparing operating rooms, supporting patient care before, during, and after surgery, assisting the surgical team during procedures, and communicating compassionately while protecting patient privacy and safety.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an approved Surgical Technologist program.
• Obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Organize and stock operating rooms with instruments, supplies, and equipment to prepare for procedures.
• Assist with patient care before, during, and after surgery, including transport, positioning, and comfort.
• Support the surgical team during procedures by managing sterile instruments, passing tools, and assisting with counts and equipment.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment through room turnover, restocking, and infection-control practices.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and team members while protecting patient privacy and safety.
