About The Position

As a Surgical Technologist, you are a trusted member of the operating room team whose priority is ensuring safe surgery for every patient. You help protect patients by maintaining a sterile environment and preparing and anticipating the instrumentation and equipment the surgeon needs. You may pass instruments, position patients, or hold retractors as requested.

The role supports the circulating nurse and surgeon throughout basic surgical cases, from operating room preparation and sterile-field maintenance to patient positioning, specimen care, and room turnover. The position is part-time and works days at Touro, part of LCMC Health.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Current BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

• Surgical Technician certification.
• Previous experience as a surgical technologist.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation and preparation of the operative site, care of operative specimens, and room turnover.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Use proper sterilization methods for instruments before procedures.
• Understand and apply asepsis standards and techniques, and take corrective action when unsafe practices, conditions, or breaks occur.
• Prepare the operating room with sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures.
• Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping, and counting with the circulating nurse.
• Perform the first-scrub role on basic surgical cases.
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and assist with retracting tissue, holding instrumentation, and cutting suture.
