About The Position
The Surgical Technologist Senior maintains and prepares the surgical suite, handles instruments intraoperatively, maintains the sterile field, evaluates changing conditions during surgical procedures, and responds appropriately. The role requires maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols. The senior technologist acts as a preceptor and works with the management and education team on the surgical technology curriculum. The position is in the South Tower Operating Room at Royal Oak Hospital, a major academic and referral center with adult Level I and pediatric Level II trauma designations. The unit has 16 operating rooms and multidisciplinary teams supporting orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures, including acute and urgent trauma cases and elective procedures for pediatric and adult patients. The unit uses advanced technologies including Surgical Theatre, robotic-assisted, endoscopic, and minimally invasive surgery.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Three years of independent Surgical Technologist experience.
- Maintain certification throughout employment to maintain Senior status.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days.
- Surgical Technologist Certified (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through NCCT required upon hire.
Nice To Haves
- Associate's degree.
- Completion of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or equivalent training program, such as military training.
