About The Position
The Surgical Technologist Senior maintains and prepares the surgical suite, handles instruments during procedures, maintains the sterile field, evaluates changing conditions during surgery, and responds appropriately. The role requires maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols. The Senior Surgical Technologist also serves as a preceptor and works with management and the education team on surgical technology curriculum. The position is in the South Tower Operating Room at Royal Oak Hospital, a Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center. The unit has 16 operating rooms and multidisciplinary teams, and performs both acute and urgent trauma procedures and scheduled pediatric and adult procedures. Its specialties include orthopedics and neurosurgery, with technologies such as Surgical Theatre, robotic-assisted, endoscopic, and minimally invasive surgery.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Three years of independent Surgical Technologist experience.
- Maintain certification throughout employment to retain Senior status.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS), required within 90 days.
- Surgical Technologist Certified (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through NCCT, required upon hire.
Nice To Haves
- Associate's degree.
- Completion of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or equivalent training program, such as military training.
