About The Position

The Surgical Tech I prepares operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring that equipment and instruments are properly functioning. The role provides basic surgical assistance, supports patient comfort and quality care, and ensures equipment and instruments are sterilized in accordance with UMMC infection-control and regulatory standards. The position may require call at the department’s discretion.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
• Knowledge of surgical techniques and equipment.
• Understanding of UMMC infection-control and regulatory sterilization standards.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills, including effective interaction with surgical team members.
• Team-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies according to UMMC and regulatory standards.
• Provide basic surgical support, including room setup, sterile-field management, handling specimens and instruments, and room turnover.
• Assess equipment, instrument, and supply needs for surgical procedures and ensure availability.
• Ensure surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies function properly during procedures.
• Follow infection-control policies, AORN recommended practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to support a safe environment for staff and patients.
• Demonstrate exceptional customer-service standards.
