About The Position

As a Surgical Tech, you will help prepare the operating room and surgical team to perform a variety of surgical procedures. You will set up surgical equipment and instruments, assist the surgical team, and help maintain a sterile environment. The role calls for adaptability, effective collaboration within the OR team, and support for complex surgical procedures. The position is at Mercy Medical Center Redding, a 266-bed regional medical center providing inpatient and outpatient services and specialized care across multiple specialties.

Requirements

• High school graduation or GED.
• One year of recent experience in the acute-care arena as an operating-room scrub tech, or a combination of recent education, certification, and experience.
• Two years of cardiac surgery experience required upon hire if working in CSOR.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology.
• Two years of recent OR experience with Redding-area surgeons' procedures, upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon as a scrubbed member of the team by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
• Assemble, prepare, clean, adjust, and store equipment and supplies used in surgeries.
• Set up each case and position furniture and equipment in the operating room for the specific surgery, including selecting instruments and sutures.
• Maintain a safe patient-care environment by following standard and special cleaning procedures.
• Assess the operational efficiency of equipment and take appropriate steps to resolve problems before admitting the patient.
• Scrub in and allow adequate time to prepare for each case.
• Assist with positioning and draping patients and with gowning and gloving physicians and assistants.
