About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Surgical Tech, First Assist provides care to patients of all ages undergoing surgical intervention and assists the surgeon in performing safe operations with optimal patient outcomes. The role practices directly under the supervision and direction of the surgeon, registered nurse, or physician assistant during the intra-operative phase of patient care. The colleague demonstrates involvement in professional activities through reading professional journals, participating in educational programs and meetings, and collegial interchange. The role also adheres to MercyOne’s Service Excellence Guiding Behaviors, philosophy, and mission in all aspects of job performance.

This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position working 40 hours per week on the day shift.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited course in OR technology.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist First Assistant through an accredited authority.
• At least two years of operating room clinical practice experience, with demonstrated proficiency in peri-operative practice as a scrub and first assistant.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, unless a doctor’s release is provided; in that case, yearly proficiency must be demonstrated through oral or written testing.
• Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology.
