About The Position

The Surgical Tech First Assist works directly with surgeons in the operating room, scrubbing and assisting during procedures. The role assists before, during, and after surgical procedures to support visualization of the surgical field and optimal patient outcomes. It may also include assisting the registered nurse with technical functions related to patient care in the operating room.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
• Vocational school graduate.

Responsibilities

• Assist before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Provide retraction and manipulation of tissues, achieve homeostasis, and perform other tasks to ensure good visualization of the surgical field and optimal patient results.
• Perform ligation and approximation of tissues, and apply clamps and electrocautery as needed.
• Assist with patient preparation and positioning, and apply casts, immobilizers, or tourniquets.
• Apply surgical dressings and drainage, and close wounds for the surgeon as needed.
• Assist the RN with technical functions related to patient care in the operating room.
