About The Position

The Surgical Tech First Assist provides direct support to surgeons during open-heart procedures. Responsibilities include positioning and preparing patients before surgery; helping maintain the surgeon’s visibility with instruments such as retractors and sponges; controlling bleeding; closing surgical sites with sutures or staples; and dressing wounds. The role also collaborates with doctors and other surgical team members to ensure proper postoperative patient care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a certified surgical technician program.
- Graduate of a recognized first assistant training program.
- At least one year of experience as a surgical tech.
- BLS certification required.
Responsibilities
- Position and prepare patients before surgery.
- Maintain clear visibility for the surgeon using instruments such as retractors and sponges.
- Control bleeding during procedures.
- Close surgical sites using sutures or staples and dress wounds.
- Collaborate with doctors and other surgical team members to ensure proper postoperative patient care.
