About The Position

The Surgical Support Tech Extern assists with preparing and supporting patients and operating room spaces for surgical procedures. The role helps maintain a clean, safe environment; prepares and cleans surgical supplies and equipment; handles operating room equipment; and transports blood and specimens between the perioperative area and laboratory. On-the-job training will be provided. A high school diploma is required.

Responsibilities

Maintain a professional image and provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and team members in accordance with Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
Assist with safely lifting, positioning, preparing, and supporting patients for surgical procedures using proper body mechanics.
Help maintain a clean, safe, and uncluttered environment; take appropriate action to correct potential hazards and escalate concerns about unsafe conditions.
Monitor the work area to ensure equipment is in the correct location.
Assist with setting up operating room spaces for patient procedures.
Follow established emergency procedures, infection control practices, and applicable OSHA standards.
Inventory, disassemble, clean, reassemble, and maintain operating room equipment.
Assist with preparing, setting up, and cleaning surgical supplies and equipment.
Use standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when working around or handling hazardous substances, including blood and body fluids.
Transport blood and specimens to and from the perioperative area and laboratory.
Be flexible, punctual, and willing to learn.
Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on the assignment setting.
