About The Position

The Surgical Technician (OR TECH), under the supervision of an Operating Room Registered Nurse, assists in providing nursing care to a designated population in collaboration with members of the health care team. The technician applies scientific principles to maintain sterile technique, including gowning, gloving, and draping; demonstrates proper scrubbing skills; handles and passes instrumentation using aseptic technique; and anticipates patient and surgeon needs. The role also assists with patient transfers and positioning, collaborates with the circulating nurse on room preparation and supply selection, and organizes equipment. The technician continuously creates, maintains, and monitors the sterile field; maintains equipment and instrumentation in proper working condition; responds appropriately to emergencies; advocates for patients and protects their rights through safe and ethical practice; and uses sterilizers safely and appropriately.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Surgical Technician.
• 1–2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with transferring and positioning patients.
• Collaborate with the circulating nurse on room preparation, supply selection, and equipment organization.
• Create, maintain, and continuously monitor the sterile field.
• Maintain equipment and instrumentation in proper functional condition.
• Assess and respond appropriately in emergency situations to prioritize and meet patients’ immediate needs.
• Act as a patient advocate and protect patient rights through safe and ethical practice.
• Use sterilizers safely and appropriately.
