About The Position

In collaboration with supervising physicians, this role provides for the expansion of individualized healthcare services by diagnosing and treating adult cardiovascular and thoracic conditions. The Operating Room based Physician Assistants will primarily work assisting in the cardiovascular operating room. This includes obtaining patient history, performing assessments via observation, interview, and examination, and ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic studies. The role involves performing health assessments, screening, and patient care, as well as providing direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral. Counseling and educating patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options, and community resources is also a key responsibility. Documentation of health care delivery and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy is required. Participation in the orientation and education of staff and students is also expected, along with other related functions as assigned.

Requirements

A board-certified Physician Assistant in good standing and credentialed by the Texas Medical Board with Prescriptive Authority.
Minimum 1 year experience in cardiothoracic surgical first assisting.
Proficiency in endoscopic and open conduit harvest.
Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations.
Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Assisting in the cardiovascular operating room.
