About The Position

Oral and Facial Surgery of the Shoals in Sheffield is seeking a skilled and committed part-time Surgical Assistant to assist with delivering exceptional patient care. The practice prioritizes patients’ needs in every aspect of its work. The role supports the surgeon during procedures and helps prepare treatment rooms, care for patients before and after treatment, maintain accurate records, and carry out infection-control and office-management tasks.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience using computers for a variety of tasks.
Detail-oriented, punctual, and focused on patient care.
Consistent professional appearance and attitude.
Motivated to grow and learn.

Nice To Haves

One or more years of Dental Assistant or Surgery Assistant experience; preferred but not required.
Certification or an associate degree from an accredited Dental Assisting program; preferred but not required.
Surgical and anesthesia assisting experience.

Responsibilities

Assist the surgeon during a variety of surgical procedures.
Prepare treatment rooms by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
Take dental X-rays of diagnostic quality.
Review patient health histories to ensure they are recorded accurately and completely.
Serve as an infection control officer, develop infection-control protocols, and prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after surgical treatment.
Provide patients with post-operative oral-care instructions following surgery or other oral treatment procedures, such as dental implant placement or third-molar extraction.
Record doctor notes and vital-sign information during surgical procedures or office consultations.
Perform office-management tasks, often using a personal computer.
Maintain patient confidence and protect practice operations by keeping information confidential.
