About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Surgical Aide performs tasks that assist and facilitate efficient patient flow and safe patient care in the unit. The role supports the nursing staff and functions as a member of the surgical team, adapting assigned services to meet the physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs of the patients served.

Requirements

BLS certification is required.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Transports patients and equipment using appropriate standard precautions.
Cleans and prepares beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs for patient transfer.
Presents self to staff, patients, families, and visitors in a warm, receptive manner.
Provides direction and information to patients and family members.
Identifies and obtains language translation as needed.
Assists with surgical patient positioning, transfer, cast application, and cast removal under the direction of the RN.
Retrieves and delivers items to other departments.
Responds promptly to assignments and requests.
Supports nursing staff in maintaining high standards of nursing practice by facilitating prompt responses to patient needs.
Restocks supplies; cleans and defrosts refrigerators; cleans equipment; and maintains an orderly environment.
Ensures patient transfer and transport equipment is functioning properly.
Functions as a surgical team member.
Performs assigned responsibilities competently and meets the population-specific and developmental needs of department members served.
Adapts assigned assessment, treatment, and service methods to accommodate each member's physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs.
