About The Position

Hopedale Medical Complex is hiring a full-time Surgery Scheduling Assistant for its Surgery Department. The role supports the Surgery Scheduler and Ambulatory Surgery Department (ASD), combining patient scheduling, administrative work, and clinical support. The assistant works with nurses and other healthcare professionals to coordinate surgical procedures, support patients, and help department operations run smoothly. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Typing speed of 40–50 words per minute with at least 90% accuracy.
Current CPR certification or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire.
Willingness to learn new systems, procedures, and responsibilities.
Ability to work collaboratively with patients and healthcare professionals in a busy clinical environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with surgery scheduling, patient coordination, and follow-up communication.
Answer telephone calls for surgery scheduling and the Ambulatory Surgery Department.
Maintain surgery schedules and tracking logs, and verify patient information.
Learn and use HMC’s electronic health record (EHR) system.
Communicate with patients, staff, and other departments to support coordinated patient care.
Assist with rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and cleaning patient rooms in the ASD unit.
Help transport patients to and from the ASD unit while maintaining their safety and comfort.
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
Support other departmental needs as assigned and within the scope of training and authorized responsibilities.
