About The Position

Detroit Salt is a historic organization with a rich legacy spanning over 100 years, originating in 1906 as a salt producer for leather and food processing. Since 1997, Detroit Salt has supplied local and national customers with tons of rock salt and premium ice melter formulations. The fruit of this labor is apparent in the salt city 1,200 feet beneath the city of Detroit, spanning more than 1,500 acres and containing over 100 miles of underground roads. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be able to read, write, and provide reporting in English
  • Must be able to maintain and provide minor service adjustments to machinery
  • Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in production/warehouse workplace and outside year round
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • High degree of collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to effectively serve our customers, stakeholders, community and the overall corporation
  • Ensure assigned work is safely and effectively executed within the production schedule
  • Safely and effectively operate forklift and front-end loader and correctly complete pre op check list on equipment to be used
  • Work safely and responsibly and follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Assist in Rail load out and adjusts the belt line according to established training and procedures
  • Perform Rail car inspections when cars arrive onsite
  • Operate shuttle wagon proficiently during loadout and move cars to all tracks in accordance to the shift loadout plan
  • Communicates all concerns affecting safety, quality, productivity and the workplace
  • Must be able to assist in the completion of weekly PM’s on hoists/shafts
  • Operate Loader and be able to move product in covered storage during hoisting operations
  • Operate forklifts safely during shift, as required
  • Perform daily start-up of belt lines and 190 stacking conveyors correctly and in the right sequence
  • Perform daily equipment checks and assist in minor service maintenance
  • Assist in completing weekly PM’s associated with the shafts and hoists
  • Correctly lower materials inside skip safely and correctly during material lowering
  • Must be able to safely replace troughing idlers and return rollers as needed
  • Operate re-crush system and know proper procedure for start up
  • Focus on achieving the daily and weekly work plan and contribute to the overall continuous improvement and efficiency of the packaging line and product shipping
  • Performs other duties as assigned
