About The Position

Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking a Supportive Recovery Worker to work under the direction of the Adams Lake Band’s Director of Cwelcwélt Healing Center. The individual’s main responsibility will be to support individuals on their recovery journey and promote housing sustainability through person-centered and trauma-informed support. This role focuses on helping participants build practical life skills, strengthen independence, and maintain wellness within a trauma-informed, culturally respectful environment. The successful candidate will work closely with individuals experiencing substance use challenges, providing day-to-day support, guidance, and encouragement while promoting dignity, safety, and self-determination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Social Science Degree, or Human Services Diploma with an addiction background, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience (and/or education) working with individuals affected by substance use and/or mental health challenges.
  • Strong understanding of recovery-oriented practices, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work with empathy, patience, and non-judgment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Crisis intervention and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Facilitate/organize/participate in educational and/or cultural activities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Cultural awareness and respect, with the ability to work in diverse community settings.
  • Professional boundaries and ethical decision-making.
  • Valid certifications in WHMIS, First Aid, and Food Safe are required or must be obtained (training can be provided; current certification is considered an asset).
  • Current Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector clearance, with results acceptable to ALIB
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License (copy)
  • All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Willingness to learn basic words in the Secwepemcstin language
  • Current certification in WHMIS, First Aid, and Food Safe is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to individuals in recovery, including life skills development (e.g., hygiene, meal planning, budgeting, time management).
  • Support participants in maintaining recovery goals and navigating relapse prevention strategies.
  • Build trusting, respectful relationships grounded in trauma-informed and culturally safe practices.
  • Assist with daily programming, group activities, psycho-education, and one-on-one support sessions.
  • Monitor and document client progress, behaviours, and any incidents in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Support a safe and structured living or program environment, including light housekeeping and meal preparation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers to coordinate care and referrals.
  • Respond appropriately to crisis situations using de-escalation techniques and established protocols.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records, including case notes and reporting requirements.
  • Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards at all times.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures.
