About The Position

This position is occupied by nurse practitioners (NP) and/or physician assistants (PA) who care for patients on a follow-up basis in the clinic as they receive continuous palliative care throughout the course of their cancer treatment. Part of a care-team model with each APP collaborating with two physicians. Established multidisciplinary clinic team including Physicians, APPs, RNs, CMAs, SWs, and PharmD. Full-time outpatient clinic position seeing an average of 8-10 patients per day for follow-up appointments. Four 10-hour shifts. Teaching opportunities with APP fellows and research opportunities. Weekly educational (Ground Rounds, Research) and IDT meetings. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in Palliative Medicine and seven other departmental clinical sections, including Cancer Rehabilitation, Integrative Oncology, and Psycho-Oncology.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina.
  • Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required.
  • BLS for healthcare provider from AHA required.
  • Nurse practitioners are required to have a master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice.
  • Certification as a nurse practitioner from a nationally recognized certifying body required.
  • Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
  • Current or pending CAQ certification preferred.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills when working in a fast paced, high acuity work environment.
  • Able to perform thorough history and physical assessment.
  • Able to work with multidisciplinary team.
  • NC Licensure

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience preferred.
  • Either oncology or palliative medicine experience required; oncology palliative medicine experience preferred.
