About The Position

The Supported Independent Living Worker (SIL) role involves providing quality service to clients to ensure their needs are met, including maintaining a safe, comfortable, and clean living environment. This position requires meal planning, preparation, and grocery purchasing. The worker will collaborate with the team and Coordinator to develop and implement client programs, both positive and restrictive. Communication with the immediate supervisor regarding any serious problems or concerns is essential. The role includes teaching basic life and community skills, supporting clients with social, recreational, and leisure activities, and ensuring all documentation and master files are kept up-to-date. Understanding the Emergency On-call System and providing leadership to support staff in the absence of the Residential Coordinator are also key responsibilities. This is a part-time position with 4 hours per week (8 hours bi-weekly). Please note: This position is open to female staff only.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Valid First Aid-CPR Level C Certificate is a mandate.
  • Valid police information check with vulnerable sector is mandate.
  • Previous experience in disability services is required.
  • Willingness to follow established policies, procedures, and support plans.

Responsibilities

  • Providing quality service to clients to ensure client’s needs are met in all regards including a safe comfortable, clean living environment.
  • Ensuring that meal planning, preparing, and grocery purchasing is completed as required.
  • Developing, in concert with the team and Coordinator all positive and restrictive client programs as required, and implementation of same.
  • Communicating with immediate supervisor to inform and consult regarding any serious problem/concern encountered in providing services to the children and youth.
  • Teaching basic life and community skills to the children and youth, and supporting client’s with their social, recreational, and leisure activities.
  • Ensuring all documentation is completed as required and master files kept up to date.
  • Understanding the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the Emergency On-call System.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the support in absence of Residential Coordinator.
