About The Position

Join our progressive non-profit organization this summer as a Support Worker through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This temporary summer position, with the potential to become permanent in the fall, involves working within a support team in day programs, community settings, or group homes. You will assist adults with physical, developmental, mental health issues, and/or acquired brain injuries. Applicants must possess exemplary communication skills, be compassionate and energetic, and be comfortable supporting individuals with various disabilities. The Canada Summer Jobs program duration is 8 weeks between June 1st to August 29 and requires applicants to meet specific eligibility criteria related to age, legal status in Canada, and legal entitlement to work in Canada.

Requirements

  • Class (5) BC driver's license or Government-issued ID
  • Minimum of one (1) year in university/college
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Negative TB Test
  • Food Safe
  • First Aid/CPR C
  • Experience with Behavior Management
  • Experience with Personal Care
  • Experience with Medication Administration
  • At least 1-2 years of experience with various disabilities
  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct care, support, and assistance to individuals
  • Following individual care plans
  • Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
  • Accompanying/transporting individuals to appointments and activities in the community
  • Completing daily documentation
  • Hospitality duties: cleaning, cooking, laundry
  • Working as a team player
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, organized, and welcoming environment
  • Leisure recreation activities
