About The Position

Join our progressive non-profit organization this summer as a Support Worker through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This temporary summer position, with the potential to become permanent in the fall, involves working within a support team in day programs, community settings, or group homes. You will assist adults with physical, developmental, mental health issues, and/or acquired brain injuries. Applicants must possess exemplary communication skills, be compassionate and energetic, and be comfortable supporting individuals with various disabilities. The Canada Summer Jobs program duration is 8 weeks between June 1st to August 29 and requires applicants to meet specific eligibility criteria related to age, legal status in Canada, and legal entitlement to work in Canada.

Requirements

Class (5) BC driver's license or Government-issued ID
Minimum of one (1) year in university/college
Criminal Record Clearance
Negative TB Test
Food Safe
First Aid/CPR C
Experience with Behavior Management
Experience with Personal Care
Experience with Medication Administration
At least 1-2 years of experience with various disabilities
Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

Responsibilities

Providing direct care, support, and assistance to individuals
Following individual care plans
Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
Accompanying/transporting individuals to appointments and activities in the community
Completing daily documentation
Hospitality duties: cleaning, cooking, laundry
Working as a team player
Help maintain a safe, inclusive, organized, and welcoming environment
Leisure recreation activities
