About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to provide professional care and support to individuals on conditional release from Federal Correctional Institutions. This role involves a full range of duties including intake assessments, ongoing tracking, logging, and essential communications with the Community Residential Facility Staff Team and Parole Office. The position operates within a faith- and values-based organization committed to serving people of all backgrounds and walks of life.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary certificate in Human Services, Corrections, or similar programs.
  • Experience in Correctional & Justice Services.
  • Certificates in CPR/First Aid or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to obtain or provide an original copy of a current Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (Level 2 check) that is less than six (6) months old and acceptable to The Salvation Army.
  • Previous experience working in a corrections setting.
  • Willingness to support the Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) in English.
  • Proficient computer skills using Word, Excel and other office software including databases.
  • Sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Tolerance and compassion for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to intervene effectively in crisis situations and use authority constructively.

Nice To Haves

  • French language skills would be an asset.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Case Management Teams, including completion and submission of Level of Service Inventory (LSI) and Case Needs Analysis.
  • Prepare and distribute Case Notes on individual residents.
  • Ensure the Residence and grounds are maintained in a clean and hygienic manner, taking remedial action when required.
  • Report needed repairs to the Director.
  • Conduct Independent House Checks at the beginning of each shift and minimally two per shift, accounting for the presence and safety of all occupants.
  • Conduct additional "Walk Abouts" per shift.
  • Record all house check and walk about information in the log.
  • Maintain daily logs in the Reception office, noting all persons entering/departing, significant contacts, alarm status, and shift change information.
  • Initial residents’ daily itineraries and verify them prior to resident departures.
  • Log all required call-ins and updates into appropriate binders.
  • Answer all incoming telephone calls and ensure all visitors and guests have signed in/out.
  • Complete Shift-Change form and report information at regular Shift-Change meetings.
  • Ensure Count Information is correct and that all important information is passed on to all participants.
  • Confirm accuracy of the dot board and make changes when necessary.
  • Complete reviews of weekend pass lists and post lists on the pass board weekly, including curfew extensions.
  • Ensure office supplies are stocked and identify items needing replenishment.
  • Print out weekend spot check lists and post them on the clip board.
  • Complete a bi-weekly inventory of all cleaning and food supplies, replenishing and ordering as needed.
  • Create new chore lists monthly, considering resident health, work schedules, and length of residency.
  • Conduct room searches of men's belongings when requested by the Director or designate.
  • Maintain all residents' files in a complete and organized fashion.
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Director or Designate to fulfill contractual obligations to Correctional Services Canada.
