Support Worker (Canada Summer Jobs) - Garden City Port Coquitlam
About The Position
Join our progressive non-profit organization this summer as a Support Worker through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This temporary 8-week position offers the chance to gain valuable experience working with individuals with various abilities in day programs, community settings, or group homes. You will be part of a support team assisting adults who may have physical, developmental, mental health issues, and/or acquired brain injuries. This role requires exemplary communication skills, compassion, and energy, with the potential for the position to become permanent in the fall.
Requirements
- Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
- Class (5) BC driver's license or Government-issued ID
- Minimum of one (1) year in university/college
- Criminal Record Clearance
- Negative TB Test
- Food Safe
- First Aid/CPR C
- Experience with Behavior Management
- Experience with Personal Care
- Experience with Medication Administration
- At least 1-2 years of experience with various disabilities
Responsibilities
- Providing direct care, support, and assistance to individuals
- Following individual care plans
- Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
- Accompanying/transporting individuals to appointments and activities in the community
- Completing daily documentation
- Hospitality duties: cleaning, cooking, laundry
- Working as a team player
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, organized, and welcoming environment
- Leisure recreation activities
