About The Position

The Support Services Clerk (Outreach) is a part-time, non-exempt position responsible for performing a variety of duties within the Library's Support Services Department. This role involves accurate and efficient handling of tasks related to the ILS Module, including patron and catalog issue resolution. Additionally, the clerk will manage workroom duties, shelving, material processing, and troubleshooting the AST System. A key component of this role is performing outreach duties, which may include delivering materials to various local centers, parks, and kiosks using the Library vehicle, preparing mail shipments, and assisting with community outreach initiatives for library card sign-ups. The position also requires assisting with department opening and closing procedures, maintaining the orderliness of collections and display areas, and contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Knowledge of alphabetical, numerical and decimal systems of arrangement.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Workspace, internet browsers and other computer related technologies.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Dedication to public service and providing excellent customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to organize work, set priorities and manage projects to completion.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, friendly, self-motivated, creative and approachable.
  • Strong obligation to confidentiality.
  • May require a valid Michigan driver's license based on assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties assigned in the ILS Module accurately and efficiently; problem solve patron and catalog issues.
  • Perform workroom duties and other tasks as assigned, including sorting and loading carts for shelving; shelving of materials; shelf reading; processing holds, returns and other materials from delivery; troubleshooting and maintenance operations of the AST System; answering main phone, directing calls and making public address announcements as needed; registering cash, check and credit card transactions.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for the Support Services Department.
  • Assist with the overall maintenance and orderliness of the Library's collections, display areas and department areas.
  • Perform outreach duties, as assigned, which may include any of the following: preparing and delivering materials to various local Older Adult Centers, Novi parks and Read Boxes and the Lakeshore Lending Library Kiosk, utilizing the Library vehicle in all weather conditions; loading and unloading materials from carts/bins and the Library vehicle; preparing and processing NPL@Your Door materials by mail shipments; assisting with community library card outreach initiatives (i.e. library card campaigns and card sign-up events).
  • Enforce Library policies relevant to public use; respond to emergencies and provide support, as needed; act quickly, exercising good judgment.
  • Maintain flexibility in work schedule to accommodate changing department staffing coverage requirements and make up of hours due to Library closures.
  • Communicate effectively with patrons, co-workers and professional colleagues.
  • Work positively and collaboratively across departments to accomplish departmental and Library goals.
  • Foster and promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and the community.
