About The Position

This position serves as the Youth Center Director, responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment within the Youth programs facilities, grounds, and sports fields, while also monitoring security and maintenance. The role involves performing developmental assignments to provide youth programs and services that meet community needs. Key responsibilities include establishing budgets, managing various fund sources (APF, NAF, grants), analyzing budgets and programs to ensure patron needs are met, and executing opportunities for youth physical activity and positive lifestyle behaviors. The specialist will plan, organize, and provide year-round youth sports, recreational, social, and educational programs. This includes coordinating recurring activities, special events, and joint community undertakings to maximize facility and resource utilization in line with the MWR mission. A significant part of the role involves coordinating and leading Boys and Girls Club of America programming (Keystone, Torch Club, Military Youth of the Year). The position requires professional interaction with employees, parents, volunteers, and installation command personnel, as well as active participation in managing and resolving issues. The Supervisory Recreation Specialist is responsible for supervising employees and volunteers, assigning and reviewing work, planning training and development, evaluating performance, and recommending personnel actions. The number and type of supervised personnel will vary. The position may require TDY travel for Boys and Girls Club of America activities and goals, and necessitates working nights and weekends as needed. The role also includes mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services.

Requirements

Must be 18 years old and speak, read, and write in English.
Currently possess or be able to acquire within 6 months of employment, CPR and First Aid certifications.
A child protective background clearance will be conducted after hire. Continued employment is contingent on a favorable background check.
At least 2 years’ experience working in youth programs, focused on the 5th-12th grade age group, or teaching at the middle school/high school level, with at least one year in a supervisory position.
Demonstrated experience and proficiency using social media platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation, such as planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community or other recreational programs.
Experience planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for middle school or high school academic levels.
Experience instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management.
Experience serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.
Undergraduate Education: Major study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; or physical education.

Responsibilities

Serve as the Youth Center Director to ensure a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment in Youth programs facilities, grounds, and sports fields, monitoring security and maintenance.
Perform developmental assignments in the application of professional principles, techniques, methods, and procedures to provide youth programs and services that meet community needs.
Establish budgets and manage appropriated funds (APF), non-appropriated funds (NAF), and funds from other sources such as grants.
Conduct analysis of budgets and programs to ensure the Youth Center continues to meet the needs of patrons.
Execute rewarding opportunities for youth to be physically active and exposed to positive lifestyle behaviors.
Plan, organize, and provide a year-round youth sports, recreational, social, and educational program.
Plan, coordinate, and schedule recurring activities, special events, and joint community undertakings to maximize the use of facilities and resources consistent with the MWR mission.
Coordinate and lead the Boys and Girls Club of America programming, including Keystone, Torch Club, and Military Youth of the Year.
Interact professionally with employees, parents, volunteers, and local installation command personnel.
Participate actively and positively in managing and resolving issues with parents, volunteers, and/or employees.
Supervise personnel assigned to Youth Programs, including assigning, directing, and reviewing work.
Plan and carry out the training and development of employees.
Evaluate employee work performance and recommend selections, status changes, and disciplinary actions.
Plan schedules and coordinate work operations, explaining management policies.
Work to achieve the objectives of personnel programs and policies and deal effectively with employees on complaints, grievances, and other matters involved in the day-to-day administration of the Youth Center program.
Serve as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services in cases of suspected child abuse and neglect.
Perform other duties as assigned.
