About The Position

The El Dorado Hills Community Services District (CSD) is seeking an enthusiastic, positive, and passionate full-time Recreation Coordinator with a focus in Youth Services. The CSD is recognized as a premier park, recreation, and local community services organization dedicated to providing excellent services and facilities, and protecting the quality of life and environment of the community. The mission of the Recreation Division is to provide fun, safe, educational, and positive recreation opportunities that connect and enrich the community and create everlasting memories. This position accepts responsibility for organizing, implementing, and coordinating the activities of one or more District recreation programs, such as youth development, summer camp, day camp, after school, preschool, teen, sports, senior center, and volunteer programs and special events. Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Supplemented by 60 units of college-level coursework in recreation, early education, liberal studies, physical education, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of recreation program operational support experience.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 45 days of starting work.
  • Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of assigned recreation program area.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of recreation operation and administration.
  • Knowledge of recreational activities favored by community demographics.
  • Knowledge of principles of lead supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of facilities, operations, and techniques used in comprehensive recreation programs.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies affecting and related to recreation programs.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of developing recreation program content.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of scheduling staff and facilities for multiple programs.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of de-escalating situations and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of developing promotional materials.
  • Knowledge of sources for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies in assigned program areas.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of record keeping.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of report preparation and business correspondence.
  • Knowledge of professional English grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, including the use of computers and software applications relevant to the work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, implement, and coordinate activities for District recreation programs (e.g., youth development, summer camp, day camp, after school, preschool, teen, sports, senior center, volunteer programs, special events).
  • Receive and respond to public inquiries about program offerings and promote public awareness of available recreation services, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Lead and oversee the work of recreation staff and/or volunteers, recommend disciplinary actions, prepare employee/volunteer schedules, and verify timecards.
  • Plan program content on a monthly/periodic basis, prepare monthly calendars, and review plans with a Recreation Supervisor.
  • Purchase necessary supplies with authorization, identify and schedule site locations and needed equipment, and prepare/maintain program and event schedules.
  • Set up for and clean up after all program activities.
  • Research new program ideas and identify/source staffing and materials needed for program implementation.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement assigned recreation programs, overseeing classes, activities, and programs for participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Instruct special classes and staff/volunteer training.
  • Monitor and direct program activities, handle discipline needs, complete accident and incident reports, and follow up with parents.
  • Speak with parents regarding their concerns and complaints, take roll call, tally participants' hourly attendance, track daily attendance, and sort participant timecards.
  • Assist the public with class and event registration, facilitating the scheduling and payment process.
  • Handle disciplinary issues with program participants and parents, referring unresolved issues to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Maintain records and reports on program activities, attendance, supplies, and other pertinent information.
  • Assist the Recreation Supervisor in creating and developing recreation program components, including manuals, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Conduct research regarding assigned areas, draft reports, and submit written materials to the supervisor for approval.
  • Create flyers and other promotional items, arrange field trips, and work special events.
  • Assist in the organization, implementation, and evaluation of rules and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as required.
