About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor and/or flight chief, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Security Forces Branch. Duties include planning, organizing, and directing the activities of a Security Forces Flight, ensuring that personnel comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. The role involves exercising supervisory personnel management responsibilities, representing the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations, and performing and enforcing the full range of police officer duties within the military installation. Additionally, the position manages the Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) Training Program for Police Officers.

  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required physical fitness/physical agility tests including running events, meet established hearing standards, and discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).
  • Incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate all security forces vehicles and installed equipment.
  • Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Experience includes: exhibit a deep understanding of police procedures and operating methods to independently execute a full range of activities-including protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response, and dispatch-alongside specialized knowledge of aerial surveillance principles to ensure officers can effectively identify SUAS systems.
  • Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Security Forces experience is highly desired
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security regulations (AF, Federal, and DoD), including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism, and physical security protocols.
  • Thorough understanding of safety, security, and EEO practices.
  • Proficiency in police officer procedures and operating methods, enabling independent execution of duties related to protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response, and dispatch.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization, exercising sound supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of aerial surveillance principles in order to ensure police officers can identify SUAS systems.
