About The Position

The primary purpose of this position, SUPERVISORY GENERAL ENGINEER NH-0801-04, is to exercise supervisory and managerial authorities over the Systems Engineering Division. The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is seeking a full-time General Engineer to work in the Engineering & Technical Management Directorate at Kirtland AFB, NM. This position is a NH-0801-04 and has a typical 2026 salary range of $127,141 - $194,417. The role involves exercising supervisory personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time, planning, organizing, and overseeing the activities of the AFNWC model based system engineering (MBSE), and serving as a consultant and expert in MBSE engineering work. The engineer will represent the organization with various Center, installation, and functional area organizations, and develop and manage the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Nuclear Material Management integrated nuclear enterprise architecture. This includes integrating AFNSC weapon system architecture with external nuclear-enabled/capable platforms/systems.

  • Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-03, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-13 or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of advanced multidisciplinary professional system engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques to apply experimental theories and new developments to problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, and to plan and execute specialized programs of marked difficulty, responsibility, and significance.
  • Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, and operation of the DoD, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence systems acquisition, development, and/or sustainment; and knowledge of planning, programming, and budgeting cycles, financial systems, and restrictions on expenditure of funds.
  • Knowledge of and skill in evaluating state-of-the-art and advancements in theory, application, technology, and policy affecting systems being developed, and in planning, organizing, and directing the functions and staff in critical aspects of development, production, and/or support of systems, subsystems, or equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, building consensus and coalitions, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with a variety of individuals and organizations as well as communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of an organization, and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff through subordinate supervisors as well as analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
  • Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

  • Selectee must be a member of an Acquisition Corps, be able to obtain membership within six months IAW 10 USC 1733 and 1737.
  • Selectee must execute, as a condition of employment, a written agreement to remain in federal service in this position for at least three years.
  • Selectee must meet level 3 certification requirements or be able to meet them within 24 months of assignment (with a waiver).
  • This position also requires the employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 Continuous Learning Points every 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time.

  • Serve as a consultant and expert in MBSE engineering work involved in the application of advanced theories, concepts, and principles related to development or sustainment of systems.
  • Represent the organization with a variety of Center, installation and functional area organizations.
  • Develop and manage the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Nuclear Material Management integrated nuclear enterprise architecture, related to the new DAF Nuclear Systems Center Integrating PEO responsibilities.
  • Integrate AFNSC weapon system architecture w/ external nuclear enabled/capable platforms/systems (aircraft, ground systems, maintenance systems, space systems, comms, and other related systems).
